VMI Somatic Practice
Certification Program


Aims Patricia offers the VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program combining Vocal Dance, Voice Movement Integration (VMI) Somatic Practice & Vital Movement Integration (VMI) Bodywork.

The VMI Certification Program, centered in Amsterdam, blends in-person and online learning. The entire training is 500 hours spread out over 2 years with a 2-week immersion course to complete the somatic integrative process at the end of the 2nd year program.

Both Level 1 and Level 2 In-person training is 4 long weekends from Friday – Tuesday for a total of 20 days for each level. Level 3 in-person somatic process completion program is a 10-day immersion course.

The program is professionally accredited by ISMETA — International Somatic Movement Education & Therapy Association as Registered Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator. It has been audited & approved by the CRKBO (Centraal Register Kort Beroepsonderwijs) as a European professional educational program & continues to be BTW free.

Upon completion of the entire curriculum which consists of Level 1 - Foundation Program, Level 2 - VMI Somatic Practitioner Development and Level 3 VMI Somatic Practice Integrative Completion Program participants have acquired the knowledge and experience to become qualified practitioners of VMI Somatic Practice and fulfill the requirements to become registered somatic movement therapists/educators and licensed natural health practitioners.



Level 1

Level I - the Foundation Program consists of 140 hours of in-person training and 90 hours of online training and independent study where participants gain an active, experiential knowledge of the somatic principles and techniques involved in the practice of Vocal Dance, Voice Movement Integration (VMI) Somatic Practice and Vital Movement Integration (VMI) Bodywork Practice.

After the completion of Level 1 participants continue with Level 2 and Leve 3 and work more deeply on their integration, and develop in more detail the principles and practices of Vocal Dance, VMI Somatic Practice, and VMI Bodywork Practice.

One of the following modules is presented each year and can be taken in any order towards completion of the entire curriculum.

Module 2

  • Fluids and Glandular Systems
  • Hands-on Physical Repatterning Practice
  • Vocal Dance and Improvisation

Total: 125 hours - Four long week ends from Friday to Tuesday between October and May for a total of 20 days.

Module 3

  • The Neurological Reflexes & Movement Sequencing & Repatterning
  • The Nervous System
  • The Craniosacral System
  • Combining Body Systems with Postural Integration & Vocal Alignment
  • Vocal Dance & Improvisation

Total: 125 hours - Four long week ends from Friday to Tuesday between October and May for a total of 20 days.

Module 4

  • Advanced Anatomy of the Voice & Vocal Alignment
  • Understanding of the Eye and Ear in Perception
  • Skeletal-Muscular System
  • Vocal Dance & Improvisation

Total: 120 hours - Four long week ends for Friday to Tuesday between October and May for a total of 20 days.

Module 5

  • Counseling approaches & techniques applied to Bodywork Practices & Somatic Movement Education

Total: 42 hours - one long week end from Friday to Sunday for a total of 3 days.

Module 6

  • Combining Body Systems with Postural Integration & Vocal Alignment
  • Hands-on & Physical Repatterning Practice
  • Final Creative Project

Total: 75 hours - Residential program in the summer period for 2 weeks with a free week end in the middle for a total of 10 days.

Requirements for Completion
of VMI Training Program


A Recommended Individual Sessions – 6 Hours

Each participant is encouraged to have 3 individual sessions with Patricia over the course of the training.

B Case Studies

When participating in both Level 1 and Level 2 each student is required to work with 3 people for a total of 4 one hour individual sessions and write a brief evaluation of each session with a final written assessment of the entire process. Participants design a standard evaluation form to be used for documenting the sessions. Guidance and supervision are offered during the process.

C Professional Profile and Aims

Defining the aims of their professional application of the training by writing a description of the ways they plan to implement the training in their professional life. Guidance and supervision are provided.

D Creative Project

Each person evaluates and presents a fully developed creative work concerning their experiences generated by the VMI training program. Guidance and supervision is provided.
